    BCA Greenmark Platinum Award

      green_mark_new

Our Tampines Hub has been awarded the Green Mark Platinum Award by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore at the BCA Awards 2015. The BCA Green Mark Platinum is awarded to exemplary green projects that effectively demonstrate at least 30% energy savings within the development, as well as environmentally sustainable building practices and innovative green features.

Our Tampines Hub with its numerous green spaces and architecture is designed to be the prototype of an eco-friendly and community-friendly establishment. This 2.5 million sq ft town hub is projected to reduce energy usage, resulting in an emission reduction of carbon dioxide which This undoubtedly contributes to the much-needed effort to reduce global warming.

With temperatures in Singapore going up, it is most encouraging to see these efforts that work hard toward a greener city even with the continuous construction of new buildings. Hence, this greener town hub will serve as a high-tech garden for the community to enjoy and to experience a cleaner and better environment, thanks to our many green spaces in Our Tampines Hub. Not only does Our Tampines Hub provides us with a greener environment but the trees that are visible from every corner of this town hub will provide for a scenic view whilst improving the air quality within Our Tampines Hub.

    BCA Greenmark and OTH

    1. What an achievement of the BCA Green Mark (Platinum) mean to Tampines residents

Differences may not be apparent at first, between a building that boasts BCA’s Green Mark and one that does not.

Apart from abundance in greenery wherever space and infrastructure permits, the pivotal difference lies in the people who use the facilities in the building and provide the respective services and facilities to visitors. Visitors too, play a part.

Our Tampines Hub will feature many smart initiatives that stakeholders, tenants and visitors can take advantage of to do their part for the environment. This includes a restroom visitlizer system (a collaboration with A*STAR on having restrooms cleaned based on demand and not against a standard roster), waste disposal systems that support a greener environment and programmes that educate visitors on efforts that they can make to be kinder toward the environment.

    2. How do visitors to Our Tampines Hub benefit from the Hub’s achievement of BCA’s Green Mark (Platinum)?

A reduction in water and energy bills of will translate to a reduction in production costs incurred by tenants. These savings can then be transferred to customers in the form of more affordably priced goods and services.

OTH also recognises the emphasis on indoor environmental quality for enhanced health and well-being. On this note, the Hub will boast excellent ventilation and non-toxic, low emitting materials that will create a healthier and more comfortable environment for visitors and tenants who play and work at OTH.

    3. Our Tampines Hub and the achievement of BCA’s Green Mark (Platinum)

With more than 250 projects in 75 cities from 14 countries having adopted the BCA Green Mark Scheme, the influence to go green is extensive, in both Singapore and the world.

In Singapore, the Clean and Green Singapore Campaign has been ongoing since 1990 and has seen annual updates since to retain top-of-mind recall amongst people living and working in Singapore.
Further to this notion of being a clean and green city, efforts have been rolled out in recent years to promote Singapore as a city in a garden, generating a vision and ideology for all to aspire toward. That economic growth and advancements, while good for the country, need not be at the expense of caring for and being kind to the environment.
Environmental degradation and climate change are real issues that, if not addressed and managed well by governments around the world now, will devastate humankind and leave a legacy that will cause hardship and suffering for all future generations.
Singapore is not resting on her laurels when it comes to doing our bit for a greener environment. On this note, NParks has made every effort to involve communities in the creation of a greener Singapore. Our Tampines Hub is proud to be a part of this effort - With many ‘green features’ like the green walls, a rooftop eco-community garden, where residents can contribute to the growing of plants and vegetables, along with the expansive features of greenery incorporated throughout the Hub, we will work hand-in-hand with Tampines residents to make Our Tampines Hub a prominent green feature for a cleaner and greener community.
